Serving Millions of Listeners in Africa

“Each trip I come home blessed over and over again by these people who have given their all to the Lord!” – Dan Peters

Spirit Radio Network is comprised of 5 full-power FM radio stations with a reach of approximately 14 million listeners in the African countries of:

•  Ghana

•  Togo

•  Ivory Coast

•  Uganda

•  Tanzania

•  Sudan

•  Congo

•  Kenya

It began in 1996 when Dan Peters first visited the continent.

Sensing a great revival taking root in Africa , Dan was eager to contribute. However, he was saddened to meet so many men of God whose children were hungry. As a result, Dan and his family determined to invest profits from their American businesses into Africa with the goals of:

•  Promoting the Gospel

•  Providing job training and careers to Christians especially women

All Spirit Radio Network stations are operated commercially, so as to teach employees and listener's free enterprise and attempt to break their dependence on donations from the west. Even Spirit Radio Networks smaller stations in poor rural settings look for creative ways to teach self-sufficiency. For example, the station in Koboko raises rabbits in the compound which help to keep the grass cut, provides meat for staff and hard currency when selling breeding stock.

Other Spirit Radio Network stations have erected cyber cafes within the compounds and offer computer training for young people anxious to catch up on 21 st century technology.

Over 60 families depend on Spirit Radio Network for their livelihood with average pay about $125/month, nearly twice Ghana 's per-family average. Still, the Spirit Radio Network staff must live frugally just to provide food and basic necessities. Runaway inflation reduces local currency's values drastically.

-4-

For example, in 1996, $1 USD would buy 1700 Cedis (see-dee's) Ghana 's local currency. Today that same dollar will buy 9,000 Cedis! Staples such as rice, beans and cooking oil are often pegged to the US dollar, so life is extremely difficult for most Africans. Yet, these people have learned a dependence on God that has given them the Joy of the Lord . No one complains of the poverty, instead they learn to thank God in spite of their circumstances.
