GHANA

Radio Station Guide For Ghana

Spirit 88.3 FM

On air in Kumasi since 6/99

Ghana 's second largest city boasts of a very religious population. Christianity is experiencing revival but dark forces of evil have plagued Spirit Radio Network efforts. Three catastrophes including our tower falling, our studios burning down and a freak lightning strike that burned out most of our equipment over the past 3 years have been financially devastating.

Local pastors apprised us that the property is the former childhood home of Kofi Anan, Secretary-General of the United Nations. His father was active in tribal religions and supposedly buried many fetishes throughout the compound. These ministers have encouraged us to either vacate the property (difficult to do - towers are not too mobile!) or hire around-the-clock prayer warriors.

The local Methodist Church leadership has offered us space at their college for a new tower site to which we would like to move as the Lord provides the funds (about $30,000). In late March of 2003, a local Muslim signed on a new station that is causing considerable interference to our signal. So far, Spirit Radio Networks requests to the Ghana Government to relocate the new station to a different frequency have fallen on deaf ears.

Spirit Radio Networks only other option is to increase power by installing a $15,000 amplifier that would also double our already-too high electricity bills.

Sunny 88.7 FM

On air in Accra since 10/02

Accra is the capital of Ghana , a young democracy in West Africa . Spirit Radio Networks all English format features news, talk shows, preaching programs and many hours of Gospel music 24 hours/day. Spirit Radio Network powerful signal reaches a potential audience of 3 to 4 million from the country of Togo on the east to Ghana 's city of Cape Coast on the west.

Kumasi Opportunity : An additional FM radio license has been made available to us if we can raise the $50,000 for construction costs. Erecting a small tower on the Abertifi mountains (near Nkawkaw about 50 miles east of Kumasi) would put Spirit Radio Networks antenna about 2,000 feet above sea level enabling the station to reach over 100 miles in each direction including the Country of Togo to the east. This station would also allow Spirit Radio Networks other stations to “link up” and share programs back and forth to further reduce costs.

Shaft 98.1FM

On air in Obuasi since 1/01

This station sits atop the second largest gold mine in the world, yet the local workers and residents are the poorest of the poor. Shaft 98.1 FM recently increased power to 5kW ERP, this pushes the signal into neighboring Ivory Coast , a French-speaking country in the midst of a civil war. In response to many requests, we have added Christian programming in French to supplement Spirit Radio Networks 12-hours/day Christian ministry and Gospel music shows.
